Poems

There are many different kinds of poems. They include limericks, rhyming poems, alphabet poems, acrostic poems, shape poems, haikus and narrative poems. Poems are often amusing because the poet uses language in many interesting ways to entertain the reader.
Rhyming poems have a regular rhyming pattern in which the words rhyme when they end with the same sound. Rhyme helps a poem to flow smoothly and sound more interesting.
Haikus have five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line and five syllables in the third. This kind of poem usually describes an image or expresses a feeling.
Acrostic poems use each letter of their title to begin each line of the poem.
Limericks are humorous poems of five lines with a special rhyming pattern where the first two lines rhyme with the final line and the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other.
